My narrative begins on the first day of school, when I was teased for being overweight. I used to hear insults like “double wide, beer belly, porky, obese,” and similar ones every day. At the start of my freshman year, all I did was play video games and go to school.I was an avid video game player and felt as like I had no purpose in life during my early years.Taking into account my intense interest for video games, I also struggled academically. I used to occasionally feel unhappy with how I looked in the mirror, and at that point I realized I needed to address both my physical and mental health issues.
The second week I asked my guidance counselor to switch my classes from volleyball to weight training. When I first started, I felt inspired by the wild lifters and athletic people I encountered, simply by witnessing their own success and results.I was tapped on the shoulder by two guys who were three-time all-Americans in wrestling. Looking back, they said, “Hey bro, you wanna get into wrestling? The try outs begin next week.” I said yes right away because I had never been invited to a club before, especially when it had to do with an individual trait. I was anxious on the first day of the tryout because I thought I might injure myself because, at the time, I was practically a snowflake. I became so obsessed with the sport after the first practice day that I forgot about video games.
Sorry you had to go through something like that, but I’m happy that you found your place. I love working out and the gym in general and I can see where your story is going.
