During the times of 6th grade I made of fool out of my grades. There wasn’t a single class that I was passing. As time got closer to the end of the year, I didn’t really see a reason to pass. For me it was kind of a joke. I thought to myself I’d take care of it next year. Until a cold monday morning, the guidance councilor called me down to her office. In our school there was a single councilor for the whole school, since it was a middle school. She told me if I didn’t manage to change mt grades within the next month I’d be held back. Being held back was always a nightmare to me, but for some reason I’d never put in the actual work to make myself pass.
After the conversation with the guidance councilor I thought to myself that I was already screwed and there was no point in trying for the rest of the year. Until a kid named Ahmed transferred into class. After my english class, he heard me speaking with my teacher about my grader. That same day he sat next to me during lunch and asked “why did Mr miller speak to you after class”? Since I had nothing to lose I explained the whole situation to him. He asked me “what I’d want to be in the future” I told him “A police officer” he replied rudely “you can’t do that if you don’t make it past the 6th grade. Which kind of hit me hard. Up until that point I didn’t speak to anyone about my grades or my future. He told me all about his experience and how he was held back in the 4th grade and he would never go through that again. In his own way he was trying to prevent myslef from making the same mistake he made. He told me deep down I’d need a good transcript to go into a good high school then to a good college if I really wanted to be a police officer. The next day I stayed ever for every class speaking to everyone of my teachers, begging for some sort of way to pass. They gave me assignments to make up that was given through the whole year. I had only a couple weeks to finish every single of those assignments if I wanted to pass. I remember going to the library after school, instead of playing outside just to get the most work done. At that end of school I ended of getting C’s in every single class and barely passing. After that I’ve tried my best to keep up with my grades.
