Clothing has a cost factor due to the natural resources used to produce these items, of which include land, water, chemicals, and energy used. In relation to natural resources, Britain is one country which is rich in natural resources such as coal and iron. At one point of the 19th century Britain was superior when it came to making textiles due to all the factories operating in Britain at this time (Barrow, 2014). Boden House takes pride in their products being one of the most sustainable garments in the world today, they say “We want you to wear our clothes for a really long time – for them to live in your wardrobe and stay out of landfill”. Boden House currently has more than 150 factories throughout 15 countries which range from the UK all the way to the Philippines (Sustainability, 2020). Since sustainability is at the forefront of this brand one way the stay committed to that is by adopting The Better Cotton Initiative, this is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to make cotton production better for those who use it, for the environment it grows in, and for the future (About BCI, 2020). Along with that initiative they also have taken other initiatives such as creating swimwear collections out of the nylon which was found in the ocean. This initiative was adopted in 2019 by using ECONYL regenerated fabric which is recycled nylon from things such as fishnets which are then made into perfectly usable fabrics (Redacting Environmental Impact, 2020).
