100 Word reflection
The OpenLab is an open-source, digital platform designed to support teaching and learning at City Tech (New York City College of Technology), and to promote student and faculty engagement in the intellectual and social life of the college community.
The documentary film “Citizen Jane” showed great insight on New York City’s transformation throughout the years. Journalist, Jane Jacobs focused on the idea that NYC is not only unique for its infrastructure, but also for its diversity of individuals who make this city great. Unlike Robert Moses who was the visionary of “Urban Planning” NYC, built new apartment buildings in efforts to clean up and modernize NYC. Jane felt strongly that New York is not the city to simply knock down old infrastructure and built new ones for profit in benefit of apartment owners. Much of Moses work also involved building “soulless” and grim projects buildings which became rural areas of crime. The documentary showed much of Jane Jacobs great accomplishments on saving the city’s landmarks, apartment buildings and historical buildings that were significant for NYC’s communities and history.
