Please submit a single pdf of your site measurement notes from our initial and any subsequent visits you may have made to 285 Jay Street.
In a separate email please send a single pdf of your reading notes from our module #1 reading assignment.
Please use the naming convention as listed in the course outline for the pdfs.

Architecture and Building Construction are not the same thing. Architecture focuses more on the art aspect of a building, while building construction focuses on how to physically create such a building. Building construction is important, you must get the scale and proportions right in order to create comfortable space for human activities. Of course, architecture is important for the building design as well, adding qualities such as color, patterns, texture, etc. One cannot work without the other. Structural systems are basically what supports the building, which would be columns, beams, etc. Enclosure systems is the “shell” of a building. A roof would be considered a “shell”, same with walls. Mechanical systems is the “essential services to a building”, water systems, sewage disposal.
There will be a student workshop on March 19th between 1:00PM and 2:15PM (location TBD) presented by the Writing Across the Curriculum team. This is a way to improve your note taking skills which will help you throughout your college career. Please look for the information and see the link below.

PLEASE MEET AT THE NEW ACADEMIC BUILDING AT 285 JAY STREET AT 8AM ON THURSDAY JANUARY 31ST. WE WILL BE MEASURING AND SKETCHING PARTS OF THE BUILDING TO BEGIN OUR MODULE I PROJECT.
An introduction to basic materials of construction and the fundamental principals of hand drafting and system analysis. The coursework includes surveying existing conditions, development of plans, elevations, and sections, and basic details as well as the study of material properties and applications.
