This e-portfolio is a collection of all of my work for the last four years while attending the New York City College of Technology to receive my bachelors degree in Business and Technology of Fashion. This portfolio shows my improvement, growth, and understanding of the fashion industry over the four years. In my later years as a junior and senior is when my work truly started to stand out, as projects became more technical and had a lot more substance in them. From developing brands, product lines, and looking at companies and seeing what they could do – I have experience in using my creative skills fully to receive my bachelors degree. At the end of it all, this e-portfolio shows my passion and drive as a fashion student.
Brand Logo Meaning
My brand is Katelyn Merrick. I am a 22 year old college graduate with my Bachelors in Business and Technology of Fashion, as well as a certified makeup artist. I live a lifestyle of being cruelty free in my diet, fashion, and makeup, due to having been vegetarian for the past ten years. To me, the most important thing is being sustainable and saving the environment as much as possible. Nature is something I hold close to my heart, and something that I seek to help in my everyday life. For my logo, I chose two colors: black and pink. This is because of the contrast of the two, I feel fits my personality and appearance the best. I’m heavily rooted in the Goth community, and have been in the Goth community for a decade now. Although it’s taken a lot of time to truly find my aesthetic and my style, I’ve always been in love with the darker side of fashion and makeup, as well as the rest of the culture that’s in the Goth community. Growing up and loving the darker side of fashion, makeup, music, movies, etc, things that are out of the “norm” for people has given me a lot of backlash for it. To this day, even after all these years and Goth becoming more popular recently, there is still backlash for it. At the end of the day, all I want to do is inspire people to be themselves fully, and to express themselves fully through their fashion and makeup, because it is art. Dressing the way I dress is an extension of myself and my art, and I want to inspire others to do and feel the same. Though, despite this, I have a strong love for the color pink. These two colors represent the two sides of me that make up my appearance, and my personality once you get to know me. I also chose a floral font and to put floral pieces around my initials because of my love for nature and how important the environment is to me. I feel deeply attached to Mother Nature, and have beliefs that follow Wicca. Lastly, EST 1999 represents the year I was born.
Mission Statement
To create a lasting impression on those around me through my art, which is fashion and makeup. Along with this, I want to inspire those around me through my art and have people realize that life is too short to not be themselves to the fullest. Lastly, because the environment is so important to me, I strive to educate people on lifestyles that are better for the environment and help them through their journey if they choose to switch to an eco-friendly lifestyle.
