Sept 24 – Deadlines and Grading

Too many of you are missing class or not submitting assignments.  Please be aware that you are seriously jeopardizing your ability to pass this course.

Moving forward:

If you presented your final connections assignment today – you may submit it again by Wednesday September 26th – it will be reviewed again and a grade change MAY be submitted.  If you did not present today Monday the 24th your work must be submitted by Wednesday the 26th or it will receive a failing grade.

For Wednesday you must additionally complete the following for your building:

  • Complete the column grid
  • Add all levels
  • Add dimensions to the column grid
  • Format the grid (level 1) on a titleblock
  • Format your exterior elevations in a titleblock
  • Try to work with a 22 x 34 sheet with plans and elevations at 1/8″ scale.  If your building requires it you may use a larger sheet (30 x 40, etc.)  If so you  must demonstrate that it cannot fit on 22 x 34 by showing a layout.

You must post all of your reference materials and research on your building on your own openlab project site.

Current Assignments and Deadlines

You have two deadlines for next Monday September 24th.

Connections Assignment Final Pinup and Grading

  • Plot Revit Drawing sheets at 22 x 34
  • Print Research Sheet at 11 x 17 (one sheet for each smaller connection you study)
  • Minimum requirement for assignment is to study two smaller connections.  Minimum work will not earn an A grade no matter how well done.
  • Include Annotations and Notes/Leaders
  • Upload your Revit file and PDF to blackboard.  Your research PDF should be combined with your Revit PDF – upload just one PDF.

Be ready to draw your assigned building in Revit – you must know the following:

  • Dimensions for the site
  • Dimensions for the column grid
  • Heights of all levels (floor to floor)
  • Create a freehand sketch with all of this information.  Post it on blackboard by midnight the day before class.  Also post this on you own project site.

Mandatory Pinups and Meeting Deadlines

It is critical that you meet deadlines and are ready for all pinups.  Pinups are not optional but are mandatory.

Your grades will be lowered if you do any of the following:

  • If you do not participate in the Pinups
  • If your work is not submitted on time
  • If your work is not properly uploaded to blackboard when required
  • If your work is not posted to Openlab when required,

Several of you have missed both of our important Pinups.  You should be aware that although it is early in the semester you are already jeopardizing your ability to pass the course.  Below are grading statistics for the Scavenger Hunt Best Study.  Too many students have received F grades for not completing their work, pinning up or posting their work on blackboard.

Deadline Clarification – Sunday Sept 16th

By next class you must have created your openlab site and posted the link.  You must also complete the 3 boards described in a previous post and put these on your own site.

By Sunday evening you must post to blackboard the first stage of the CONNECTIONS assignment.  You should have created the steel column and beam and positioned these to match the reference page from the Ching book,  Then create a minimum of 4 views- plan, 2 elevations and an isometric and format these on a 22 x 34 sheet.   Post this to blackboard by Sunday Sept 16th by midnight.

These progress assignments will receive grades.

Afternoon Class – please post a link to your openlab site

Please respond to this message with a link to your site.  Include your name.

On your project site create (3)  11 x 17 boards as follows:

  • One for your building
  • One for your curtain wall
  • One for the solid material

For each of these boards format appropriate photographs.  Include the name and address of the building.  Include your name as well.

These must be posted before our next class meeting.

Deadline & Plotting Reminder

Remember that you must complete and upload the Scavenger Hunt – Updated Study by midnight Tuesday.  Additionally you must plot the sheet(s) 22 x 34 BEFORE CLASS and be ready to post.

Morning (AM) Class must come in early to plot (8 AM Recommended).  For afternoon class you must also have your assignment printed before class begins. Anyone who is not ready to pin up at the start of class will have their assignments marked late and downgraded.  (A become A- or B become B-, etc.)

Also please bring your redmarked sheets (11×17) of the same assignment and pin these up as well for comparison.

We will be starting the CONNECTIONS ASSIGNMENT on Wednesday

Scavenger Hunt Grading Statistics

The Scavenger Hunt Projects are graded in Blackboard. If you did not submit and received an F/0 grade you have until next class to submit your work. After that the F grade will remain. For these late submissions your final grade will be dropped one full grade as it is important that you participate in all pinups and that work be submitted on time. (For example, if your work is A quality the grade would be dropped to a B)

Below are grading statistics for both classes for your reference.
