Proposal

What do you think about when you hear the term research proposal or research paper? What automatically comes to mind is all the things you’re going to have to do to make it a good proposal or paper. Doing any kind of research can be tedious and annoying. There are many kinds of researches that you can do, but everyone always thinks about it in the academic form. There is informal researching that you engage in everyday, for instance checking the weather, trying to find directions, looking up information on our favorite artist or even looking for a vacation location. For it to be considered good research there are certain steps and processes you have to go through. Our version of family feud will be played similarly to the original version of family feud, but geared towards helping you find the best databases and options you need for your research. Family Feud is an American game which two families compete against each other created by Mark Goodman and Bill Todman. The rules of the game are to divide the class into two groups/teams, and then one member of each group will face off each other before every round. Whoever gets the correct answer will receive control over the board which then gives them to power to take control of the round or pass it to the other team. The objective is for the team which receives control of the board to reveal all possible answers before getting three strikes.  If the team receives three strikes without clearing the board, control is then passed to the next team. The team that now has control is hoping to get an answer correct, if they do the point is awarded to them, if not the points go back to the other team. Points are collected as you find the correct answer on the board, whoever has the most point’s wins. Keep in mind through this game you are going to be introducing to relevant topics and databases that will give you information. After playing this game you should have a well equipped plan on how to attack research projects head on. With all of this information you receive from the game you should have an easier time doing research.

On the other hand,  as college students we have distractions. The majority of us think we can multitask with everything we do. With distractions things can start to get messy, spotty and not clear. We automatically think that since we are good at one thing we can do something else too. It’s noted that all it takes is one sound or one funny thing to read that we can spend the next few minutes researching on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, instagram, smart phones and tablets. To achieve the goal of this game, which is to conduct an effective and new way of doing research, you have think outside the box and learn about other databases rather than the popular ones. The popular ones are so broad and diverse and usually harder to get all the information that’s need. With this game we are narrowing the database based on how accurate and resourceful it can be for you.

The reason we chose to base our Family Feud because this project is also a group project. Group projects are never easy because you always have to depend on someone else and also wait on them too. These projects also have their benefits because more brains mean more ideas which you will have to blend and condense to make everyone happy. With so much people working together it can get cluttered so you have to give everyone roles and timing. Our game is going to give students another way of approaching research. Future players of JulHamSha can change the questions around into the form that best suits the lesson they are trying to teach. One could want to teach students how to properly cite sources, using this game you could survey a question like what are common components of an MLA citation? APA? By teaching through a game class becomes more enjoyable, and it also makes the information much easier to remember in comparison to simply reading about it.
