Assignment E – Parti Diagramming
Assignment F – Reflection
After the pin up session, I felt more or less satisfied with the way my diagrams came out. Of course a few minor edits on my presentation could’ve helped but I don’t believe it necessarily hurt my diagrams. Looking at the other student’s diagrams gave me sort of a basis for what works aesthetically and reads well diagrammatically. I choose my third diagram (Framed Views) because the parti seemed to make the most sense to pursue architecturally. Not only was the composition interesting as Prof. Montgomery pointed out, it was a parti that could also be used to respond to my climate zone like Henry noted. The next step for this process is to make some changes to resolve any programmatic and/or climatic issues in the composition.

Assignment H – Digital Model Development
Assignment I – Plan Drawings
Assignment J – Site Section Drawings
Assignment K – Reflection
For this review my main focus was to finish, even if some parts were more undeveloped than others, the goal was to have all my drawings on the presentation board to at least have something to discuss. So in those terms, I am very happy with the result. However, there was a lot of things I think needed improvement. From my plans, to my section, to the actual presentation board itself. I learned that it isn’t always best to rigidly follow a concept. A concept should be explored and shaped by the conditions of the site and the programmatic function it has to accommodate. My expectations for the next project is to maximize the development of the design in the allotted time, as well as improve my plan and sectional drawings. I also hope to do better as a presenter, because as Ed noted, the presentation is just as important as the design.

For this particular project, I learned that simple can sometimes be better. Successful explorations of concepts does not always have to result into complex designs. Many examples in our class presentation backed this notion. Overall, I felt this design studio was the most rewarding out of any class I’ve taken thus far. Despite not having much time to get into any of the details of things, getting introduced to the concepts of structure, diagramming and iterative design process has done so much for me. I feel a lot more confident going into Design 4 after taking this studio. Thanks Prof. Montgomery & Henry!
