Statement of Philosphy

I believe that nursing is a field that relies on trust. Nurses must build up a trusty relationship with their patient. A patient must be able to trust their nurse because the safety of the patient is in the nurse’s hands. Nurses must constantly have a relationship with their patient- where the latter trusts the former. In order to build the relationship, nurses must be competent and well-qualified. They must be able to act under pressure, but still keep calm. They should learn how to keep their emotions from affecting the care the patient is receiving. A nurse’s first priority is the safety his/her patient. A nurse should constantly monitor the patient and also recheck orders and prescriptions for any errors. Nurses should make sure the patient is comfortable with the atmosphere and his or her situation. Nurses are continually learning new things and they must be able to easily adapt to different environments. Most importantly of all, nurses should realize that they’re not just doing their jobs; they are making relationships with their patients through caring and trusting.  Nursing is not just a job that requires a lot of education- it is a job that shows the helpfulness and the goodness in people.

To build trusting relationship with patients, nurses would follow Jean Watson’s human caring theory, which focuses on patients’ care rather than technology. Nurses have to accept and respect their patients’ beliefs and values with a passion of caring. In other words without having a caring attitude, it is impossible for a nurse to build a trusting relationships with her patients.
