My name is Jenny Williams. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by my mother and grandmother. My grandmother was a licensed practical nurse for about 40 years and everyday I saw how rewarding it was to work in the health field. This fostered my interest in healthcare and I always aimed to do my best in school in order to obtain that goal. Nursing is a wonderful career but I wasnāt entirely sure that it was the field for me. I only knew that I desired a career where I would be able to leave a positive impact in people’s lives.
Growing up I was always an artistic, skillful and creative person and I also loved learning about the sciences. I liked to sketch, do beauty transformations and participate in hands-on activities. I wanted to do something that would incorporate those aspects of myself. During my junior year of high school, I did a quick Google search in hopes of finding a career that spoke to me and I searched āhands on careersā. This is where I stumbled upon the incredible field of dental hygiene and I remembered the joy I felt in finally finding something that genuinely caught my interest. I loved the fact that it was a career where you could make an instant impact in someoneās life. The instant gratification of making someoneās smile brighter was something that I knew I would enjoy.
Now that I am a dental hygiene student , I couldnāt be happier with my decision. It has been tough, demanding and stressful at times but I know that it will all be worth it. I have learned so much and grown as a person. I possess a skill that will not only boost the confidence of my patients but will also have a positive impact on their overall health. It is incredibly rewarding when my patients come to me and I am able to transform their smiles and have them leave my chair feeling like a better version of themselves. I also enjoy educating them and seeing the result of that when they come back months later in a healthier state.
Beyond dental hygiene, I am also a fashion designer. I sew special occasion garments for clients and I appreciate dental hygiene because I know that I will be able to have that work life balance to continue doing what I enjoy.
