Capstone Projects-Professional Activities

The New Jewish Home Lifecare Center internship that I have been a part of for two semesters, allowed me to put the skills I have learned in various courses, such as group work practice, to good use. This site is predominantly populated by the elderly, temporarily disabled and permanently disabled with various limitations. I had the pleasure to create and conduct a program that would not isolate any individuals willing to participate in a program. Through much thought I developed a music and movements program targeted specifically for this population.

Exercise is an important part in day to day living because it helps you stay fit and healthy. This project has the ability to help residents with ailments such as, depression, body aches, mental-stress, etc. The goal is to keep the participating residents happy and healthy. I incorporated exercise and music into a 45 minute program for 15 participants.

I faced the barriers of the project head on to ensure the completion of my project. A few of the barriers were voice projection, nerves, and breaking a routine that the residents had in place . I must say that the encouragement I had from peers helped me face my fears and execute a successful project where my target population was able to gain healthy living habits while having fun nd feeling included. To see the smiles on many of the participants faces was a true joy.
