Midterm (Strategy + Client Mailing List + Sample Work)

STRATEGY:

Postcards that can also be cropped into conventional social media sizes without losing part of the overall concept. Apart from cold emailing those on my list, I want to be more active on instagram/twitter and doing appropriate tagging. For those companies that allow work submission, I’ll be doing just that! Along with being active, I also plan on reaching out to some artist idols and making first attempts at getting to know them/letting them know I’m out there and want to learn from them.

As for the postcard route, I am able to shell out a small amount in order to get a nice print out:

Vista Print | 50 Copies | 5  x 7″, Glossy Front | $35.99

4over4 | 50 Copies | 5  x 7″, Glossy Cover | $35.00

Walmart | 50 Copies | 5  x 7″, Photo Cover | $72 (11+ @ $1.44 and within the hour)

Bonus: Bookmarks! I have yet to think in what way to mail these, possible with a handwritten note?

Vista Print | 50 Copies | 2 x 6″ | $35.00

4over4 | 50 Copies | 2 x 6″, Glossy Front | $15.00

With a lot of time at home, I’m currently learning more about After Effects and I hope to apply that into my art soon as well!

CLIENT MAILING LIST: Here

In my list, I have both Art Directors to contact and companies that allow artists to submit their work for a business inquiry.

SAMPLE WORK:

Journal Entry 10

Thursdays are my long days….. and today proved it before my late class was even a blip on my schedule. I finalised vector designs I was previously worked on, put them in their appropriate files and sent them off to get look at for feedback. I’m also working with ALC this semester again, and the Professor asked for me to help re-design a few documents that tutors currently use during their sessions. I sent off the first batch two weeks ago, and just finished sending off the next batch of documents a little while ago. What we usually do is give the client options. So for each initial draft, there are a 2-3 design options. The Professor then picks which design works best for their needs. Of course, I always hope they end up picking the design I personally enjoyed working on most.

Tuesdays are my short days. I usually leave small work to do during this time before I head up to my late class. There was one co worker in the office when I arrived, so I grabbed them to help me post up the Scifi Symposium posters around campus (as I had previously promised the Professor in charge that I would). It took a chunk of my time, which is why I left it for today specifically. During that time, we basically did old poster clean up, which helped free up space for mine 😀 On returning, I continued work on vector designs for future workshops and some prep work for the Honor’s Scholar brochure which will be printed towards the end of the month. I’ll have to further budget my time in order to get that monster project running smooth and ahead of schedule.

Today was a work day! I had to bang out a few vector designs for some library workshop posters that I hope to send out mid week. The Professor in charge is all about BRIGHT and BOLD so its been an experience meeting their expectations and making the vibrant color schemes work all around. I believe I have been successful so far! I took a trip to repro after settling in to see if prints for any team member was finished. Good thing two co workers went down with me as there were a few projects ready for us to pick up. One of them was including…… my Scifi Symposium poster! I held onto that project for a few extra days than intended, but the end result has me happy. I’ve been getting some great responses to it, so all the hard work behind it has been totally worth it.

It feels unreal that midterm season is nearly here. It feels like I was just sending out beginning of semester email greetings to find out what I will be working on for the Fall. As I’ve been working on my time management more as of lately, I am all caught up with what needed going out and what will be going out. It feels great to walk into the office instead of running to my desk because I’m behind. And since we do have 4 new interns this semester, I knew I needed to set a good example on how to balance work with classwork. I’m still continuing my Scifi Symposium poster design which I cannot show yet! But I’ll be so excited for when it is finally printed and plastered all over campus!! It’s always exhilarating to see your contribution to the school being put to use.

I don’t usually work Fridays, but this week was different. I couldn’t make my hours this Tuesday because of personal affairs, so I’ve come in today! It’s quiet on Friday’s so it was the perfect time to get ahead on work. I had to send out a few emails for upcoming workshops for the Library and had a back and forth with another professor about poster materials. After that, I set up a few inDesign documents to be ready once its time to start sending out those drafts to the appropriate professors. I had a bit of free time before leaving for a 2pm class, so I started work on the Scifi Symposium poster. There’s a lot of small details that will be going into it, and I am SUPER excited to have the opportunity to be working on this.

Just came back from my meeting with the professor in charge of the Scifi Symposium. We went over the concepts I had drawn up. He loved them all! I am always afraid the client will like NONE of what I show them. That feeling will never go away. BUT he was really excited about the last one I drew up. We went over composition and what copy would be going on the poster. The meeting didn’t take as long as our first last week, but it was a positive one. Below is a picture of a group of concepts. It does not include the one I will be working with.

I’m excited to get started on this poster ASAP!!

Journal Entry 4

I was warned by a coworker yesterday that the office would look a little different today for a luncheon happening in the afternoon. This is what I walked into:

After navigating  the maze and putting back all chairs I bumped into, I fired up the Mac and got to work! I received a new email from a client about a previously talked about project that we can now work on. Aside from that, I’m about to email a few drafts of Library workshop posters as well to get looked over. I usually take a break during club hours and head up to the 11th floor for Ink Club…. but there will be food in the office today…. and I will be on campus until 8:30pm because of a late class… so that is my plan for the day!
