Big Crown Records | Graphic Design Intern | Supervisor: Danny Akalepse
I was googling design internships and writing a few different record companies/ beauty/media before Christmas and around New Years. I saw their listing on craigslist.com. I received an email and it was requesting an interview within that week. I was looking for a music-related internship in design and branding. I was hired for an internship pretty early around December 20 2019.

I actually lived at the time in Greenpoint, Brooklyn as well, so it took me 5-10 minutes to get to the interview, it was a short walk from my temporary apartment. I dressed pretty casual and comfortable. I would say it was an unorthodox music label and small operation which is centered around grassroots and independent music scene online, live performances, and touring.
The interview was in person and pretty simple. I showed my design work and e-commerce site I managed. We talked briefly about what my skills were and projects, I would work 8-16 hours a week.
The interviewer was the owner, so that was cool to go directly to the source. Instead of being interviewed by other people. He showed me all their record releases and merchandise/products. The interview took 30 mins to 45 mins. He pretty much asked if I am interested in the work they do and projects he showed me. I emailed him that same day or the next day and said thank you and that I am interested in working for Big Crown Records.
I don’t know if he felt I was expressive enough or appearing excited about me wanting to work for them, he kept asking me if I was very interested. I have some experience with my father’s record business, Rockers International Records/Label and he knew of my father’s record shop/label based in Kingston, Jamaica. So, I think he was shocked, I wanted to work for his company. I wanted to get experience outside of my family’s business and complete my internship hours and build my resume.
There weren’t a lot of questions because we were more showing me their business and I was showing my design work.
