Culmination Proposal

In my time at City Tech, I have learned about lighting technology and video post production, and have worked on several editing projects in Advanced Video Editing class. My goal when I graduate is to get a job as a Camera Operator, Lighting Technician, or Video Editor but I feel like I don’t have enough practical experience yet. For my culmination project, I would like to put my skills to the test by acting as the Director, Camera operator, and Editor for a short professional promotional video on my family’s soccer league.
The owners of the Soccer league and the majority of the players are from Ecuadorian descent however there are many other Latino ethnicities. There are roughly 120 teams that make up the league. The video will be 8-12 minutes in duration and will be informative in nature as well as motivational. The main person to be featured is the owner as he would be interviewed and talk about the league’s history, objectives, and general information. There will be B-Roll capturing the nature of the Soccer League from the outside physical establishment, soccer players in action, behind the scenes from the administrators POV, and amenities provided inside the venue such as beverages and food. There will also be interviews of soccer players and spectators to captures the overall emotional perspective of the soccer league.
Being the Director, Camera Operator, and Editor for a professional promotional video would let me practice my lighting techniques, use of professional equipment such as stabilizers and mirror-less cameras, editing, and directing skills. I can use the finished product as a reel that I can present to potential employer in order to showcase my knowledge in the film making process.
- Methods
For this project I will be renting and shooting with a Sony A7S EF Mirror-less Camera. In preparation for the actual day that I rent out the camera I will study it’s manual and examine video tutorials on the camera’s specifications and features to become well versed, informed, and be able to properly operate the camera. I will prepare the same way before hand for the rest of the equipment such as a Stabilizer and Interview 3-Light Kit. I will be using the Tascam DR 05 in order to record audio. I am familiar with the audio recorder since I own one so much preparation is not needed.
As far as the software is concerned, Adobe Creative Cloud more specifically: Adobe Premier and After Effects will be used. I have bought textbooks from Adobe on Premier and After Effects. An hour a day will be allotted in order to practice, examine and master these specific editing software in order to successfully execute this project. Learning Adobe software is imperative in order to land a job in media or video production because it is widely used in the industry because of its user friendly aspect and affordability.
