Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my e-portfolio! My name is You Jin Hong. I am currently a senior in New York City College of Technology Dental Hygiene Program. As a Dental Hygiene student, I examine patients and look for signs of oral cancers and oral diseases such as Gingivitis or Periodontitis. I provide deep scaling, preventative care, and oral hygiene instructions to restore every patient’s oral health. Throughout my journey at NYCCT, I have seen over 50+ patients within 3 semesters. The journey was not easy. There were many days when I stayed up all night studying, and I cried because of a patient who canceled in the last minute. However, I love this field more than anyone else and I look forward to working as a dental hygienist after graduation soon!

You might be wondering why I chose dental hygiene as my lifetime career. I am Korean and have lived in Korea for 25 years. My relationship with the dental field begins in Korea. I initially pursued dental hygiene as a career and graduated from dental hygiene school in Korea. After graduating and working in a clinical setting for about two years, I came to the United States from Korea to experience the wider world. As fate would have it, I met my husband not long after coming to the United States, and I thought for a long time about deciding on a career in the United States. At some point, I realized that working at the dentist was where I shined the most, so I decided to pursue dental hygiene school again. The curriculum in Korea and the United States was similar yet different. It was a time when I was able to take advantage of each and develop further. I would like to thank my husband, friends, classmates, and professors who supported me during the two years of the program. This page will give you a brief glance at my experience in the dental hygiene program.
