Alleviate Stressors

HelpingĀ a love oneĀ with PTSD;

Donā€™t pressure your love one into talking

Since we cannot imagine what our love ones are going through with PTSD, we should not pressure them into talking with us or with others about their situation (HelpGuide.org, 2016). By giving them a safe environment for them to adjust they will eventually be comfortable with their transition (HelpGuide.org, 2016). However, if forcing your love one into talking about their traumatic experiences can cause a worst situation for them and those around them (HelpGuide.org, 2016). Having the person feel accepted by you without talking is an important step in alleviating stress from their transition (HelpGuide.org, 2016).

Be Patient

By being patient with our love ones it can set up a nurturing environment, this will encourage growth and set up a foundation for support (HelpGuide.org, 2016). Since living with someone with PTSD isnā€™t easy we tend to give up on him or her, donā€™t, because the person we know and love is still alive, we must nurse him or her back to health. It is important to stay positive in these situations (HelpGuide.org, 2016). Recovery takes times, we need to show that we are here for them, no matter what (HelpGuide.org, 2016).

Do ā€œnormalā€ things with your loved one

By having them do daily activity around the house or community helps them settle in their environment (HelpGuide.org, 2016). Giving them things to do, physically, they can start to understand and comprehend that they are in a safe environment (HelpGuide.org, 2016). Some of these physical activates could just be hobbies they used to do before the traumatic event that occurred (HelpGuide.org, 2016). We can also bring them into social gatherings with family or friends, go on dates or take fitness class, all this to help alleviate stress for them (HelpGuide.org, 2016).

The General Public Can Also Help

Since homeless people Ā cannot afford housing they end up in the street. The general public can write their congressman or women to help in creating more housing for homeless people. By pushing this many stressors can dissipate that has affected them by living in the streets. By doing can alleviateĀ stressors like physical health, economic/education and Ā social.
