The group’s main focus was to create a website about healthy foods for the heart as well as bad foods for the heart. The healthy foods that the group decided to pick was almonds, garlic, olives, and salmon. The group choice these foods because theses healthy foods can have a good impact on the heart of who eats it. These foods are important for our body and can make the individual that eats it live longer. Healthy foods leads those that eat it to less diseases and definitely fewer cardiovascular problems or as most know it heart problems. Food is a big component in keeping the proper balance of blood circulation as well as clots and plaque in the arteries. The build up of fat reduces the chances of a longer life as well as adding on additional medical problems. Theses problems eventually becomes a bigger situation to maintain. In order for these problems to be maintained, a healthy body is needed. To maintain a healthy body people must balance their fat intake and look into and consider good and bad fat.

Almonds are a good example from the nut family. Where as other nuts are a bad choice because of the amount of fat that they have, almonds have less fat. An almond would be a better and healthier choice of a snack in comparison to a bag of potato chips. A helpful tip about almonds is that they reduce cholesterol level in the heart. They also lower blood sugar levels. Not to mention they give a boost of fiber for those who have lower fiber intake. An interesting fact about almonds is that they keep those that eat it fuller for a longer period of time.

Olives is an ancient fruit and it might not be the first choice for someone but it plays a vital role in the body once it is consumed. There are many methods to consume olives. For example putting it in salads, eating it fermented, and or using olive oil to cook. The high monounsaturated fat content of olives have reduced cardiovascular diseases in those who have eaten it. It also helps fight against LDL cholesterol also known as bad cholesterol and decreases blood pressure.

Garlic might smell bad but it enriches the heart more than most think. A few minutes of bad breath can save people a lifetime of dealing with heart diseases. Garlic reduces hydrogen sulphide which relaxes the blood vessels and keeps blood flowing smoothly. By doing this, sulphide helps reduces blood pressure which allows the blood to carry more oxygen to the organs, therefore reduces pressure to the heart. There are countless ways to incorporate garlic into your everyday diet such as using it as a seasoning or eating it as the main dish.

Salmon is the king of heart healthy foods. Salmon is a great meal that is not only filling but also delicious. At the same time an individual can get so much from it. Just as people say “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, two servings of Salmon a week keeps plaque and clots away. Increasing omega-3 fatty acids consumption benefits the heart in many forms. It decreases risk of arrhythmia (abnormal heart beat), lowers blood pressure, reduces heart disease and is a great source of potassium.

The group choose the first source to be the article “Heart disease” by the staff at Mayo Clinic. In the article the staff at mayo clinic discusses the impact almonds have on the body more specifically how it effects the heart. Such as the fact that almonds contain unsaturated fatty acids and other nutrients.

The group choose the second source to be the article “Why garlic is good for the heart” which talks about how consuming garlic releases a compound call allicin. Allicin reacts with red blood cells and produces hydrogen sulphide. Hydrogen sulphide relaxes the blood vessels and allows blood to flow easier thus reducing blood pressure in the body and heart.

The group choose the third source to be the article “Olives” which discusses how olives reduces LCL or as it is more know as bad cholesterol levels in the blood. Olives contain many different antioxidant and antiinflammatory nutrients.

The group decided to create a resource that list foods that keeps the heart healthy. The four foods the group decided to discuss are: Salmon, Olives, Almonds, and Garlic. The resource is in the form of a website that the group named heart healthy food.
