Problem to Solve

So what is the goal of our proposal or the problem we are trying to solve? One of the biggest problems that occurs when it comes to a poor and unhealthy diet for kids is obesity. Obesity is a problem that both children and adults go through as a result of a poor diet. Consuming high calories , sugar, and fat content  in different foods and drinks such as dairy products, bagels, cookies, sodas, donuts,  and fast foods can lead to obesity. An article published by National heart, lung, and blood institute states, “In the past 30 years, the prevalence of childhood obesity has more than doubled among children ages 2 to 5, has nearly tripled among youth ages 6 to 11, and has more than tripled among adolescents ages 12 to 19.”Other health related problems and severe illnesses that can even influence kids in their adult age includes type 2 diabetes, infertility, cardiovascular diseases, heart diseases, cancer, arthritis, and stroke. Different health problems can start at a young age but can be managed and controlled if kids understand the amount of calories they are consuming on a daily basis. It is clear that at an young age, kids do not understand how to properly take care of their bodies. It is important to eat a lot of food in order to grow but sometimes eating too much unhealthy food will bring more harm than benefits. If we can allow some kids to have a clearer understanding of a healthy diet and nutritious meal in our after-school program, we will have the chance to influence many more kids in a positive way.
