This song is dedicated to international students or teenagers that had to make sacrifices to pursue their dreams and are simply missing home. Maybe it isnât your actual house that you miss but your family, friends and even the routine you did before moving away. Maybe you didnât move far away but you just entered adulthood and had to say goodbye to the carefree version of yourself. Whatever you may be going through, you are not alone. I know that it feels cold but it will get warmer eventually, I promise. Roads may seem blocked, skies may look dark and time seems to pass by too fast. Everything you are facing right now is just another phase that you will overcome and conquer. If you feel like giving up, donât. Do you know that if you are able to withstand everything that life has thrown at you so far then you can do anything? You are unstoppable. Donât just let me, your friends or your family tell you that. Tell yourself that you can and you will succeed. You will be able to make your family proud and accomplish anything your heart desire as long as you DONâT GIVE UP. Now keep these words in mind, positivity, patience, and perseverance. Remember to be positive, be patient and to try your best to persevere.
Verse 1:
My days get harder to bare
Especially when Iâm alone
I laugh the pain away
I wipe my tears secretly
But thatâs a part of growing up
Can I turn back time
To when I was five
When daddy held me and said
Iâll be your superman
I remember having
Race cars and Nintendoâs
Mommy in an apron
Oh I never thought Iâd miss the sight of that
Pre-chorus:
But as I grow older
I learn that maybe sometimes
Letting go is better than holding on
Darling remember that even if you fall,
Iâll take your hand and lift you up
Chorus:
And I know you are strong..
Yes it might be hard
You miss the feeling of home
But home is where your heart lays
Donât be scared to cry
Iâll lend you my shoulder
When roads seem way too dark
Look up Iâll be right there
Ten thousand miles might seem so far
But weâre so close at heart~
Verse 2:
Take a breath, close your eyes
Take one step at a time
Donât look back
And wonder why
Keep moving forward
For a better time
Mom and dad
Iâll come back home
Iâll make you proud
And buy you a car
Maybe a brand new house
With a huge backyard
What do you say?
Can you wait for me
Pre-chorus:
Thereâs no mountain high enough
No ocean deep enough
Can break what we have
Because weâll walk in this path
Without looking back
And one thingâs for sure
Weâll be okay
Chorus:
And I know you are strong.
Yes it might be hard
You miss the feeling of home
But home is where your heart lays
Donât be scared to cry
Iâll lend you my shoulder
When roads seem way too dark
Look up Iâll be right there
Ten thousand miles might seem so far
But weâre so close at heart~
Bridge:
Even when your world feels like itâs crumbling down
Look into my eyes and find the silver lining
Please donât give in to the voices inside your head
Because Iâm here for you
And you are stronger than you think
Outro:
At last, when I knock on your front door
And I can start smelling your cologne
Youâll see the light shining through my eyes
And Iâll be able to see you smile
As tears start strolling through your face
I’ll say âMom and dad Iâm homeâ
The painting is a re-construction of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supperâ. The Last Supper is the final meal that Jesus shared with his 12 apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion.
Artist Burciago stated that his intentions were, âTo portray the 12 Apostles dining on tortillas, tamales and tequila instead of bread and wineâ ( 1988). The typical Mexican food that we already know of. But for those that donât know, tortillas are made with water based dough which is pressed then cooked. Tamales are made of dough, which is steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf. They also vary from spicy to sweet but if you want to be basic you can have the plain ones that are made with just cheese. Tamales are typically made only on special occasions, whether it be a birthday party or a holiday but tamales never miss out on any family gathering . He decided to also replace the religious figures with 13 Chicano heroes when he was persuaded by students to mix humor with religion.
The creator, Jose Antonio Burciago, had also  polled a total of 200 Chicanos students and activists from the late 1960s to find out whom they considered the top 13 Chicano heroes . But not all the heroes had to be Chicano. In the painting the important historical figures included was Mexican general and politician Ignacio Zaragoza, legendary bandit who became a hero Joaquin Murrieta, American labor leader and civil rights activist Cesar Chavez along with Dolores Huerta, the father of Chicano theater Luis Valdez, La Virgen de Guadalupe, revolutionary Che Guevara, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, poet Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leading figure in the Mexican Revolution Emiliano Zapata, Mexican American guitarist Carlos Santana and Death-La Muerte received enough votes to stand behind the lucky 13.
The 200 people that were questioned took important parts in Burciagaâs tribute “and to all those who died, scrubbed floors, wept, and fought for usâ the reason for why I choose this picture. The quote pays respect to those that contributed to the Chicano history so that we would be able to have an identity and to those that brought about change to our society during that time. So that students could be encouraged to be biliterate, helping schools to promote bilingualism by providing medals and seals which is known as The New York State Seal of Biliteracy. It was signed into law by Governor Cuomo on July 31, 2012 and was introduced into my high school just last year. Itâs important to realize that what we know as history is relevant to our life right now and helps us understand our society today .Â
Cinco de Mayo
An important date that allow us as Chicanos and overall the latino community feel connected to our ancestors and represents the mixture of Mexican American culture is May 5th. Every year a Cinco de Mayo Parade takes place around Sunset Park which is located in Brooklyn or in Manhatten. The city is flooded with Mexican pride. That day I could walk out in green, white and red and not be the only one. According to Ph.D writer Felipe de Ortego y Gasca, âCinco de Mayo is regarded by most Mexican Americans (Chicanos) as a day of commemoration symbolizing the strength of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversityâ(2011). Cinco de Mayo is the day that commemorates a victorious battle that took place in Puebla, Mexico. Known as âLa Batalla de Pueblaâ and not the Independence Day of Mexico . The celebration of Cinco de Mayo became among Mexican immigrants a way of encouraging pride in their Mexican heritage in the United States. Serving as a reminder that we are powerful despite the discrimination we face. That Cinco de Mayo is the day that represents unity. To be able to celebrate our pride, remember our roots, honor our traditions and remember where we came from along with our community. Therefore we shouldn’t be ashamed but rather proud of our backgrounds. As Chicanos we protect immigrants and Dreamers and we can fight against discrimination and racism not in a form of violence but rather showing that we can become doctors or lawyers and make a difference in society while remembering and honoring our ancestors.
Our Lady of Guadalupe                      Our Lady of Guadalupe,  also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, is an iconic symbol of Mexican Culture. She is depicted with brown skin, an angel and moon at her feet and rays of sunlight that encircle her. Her image was used as religious figure like god is used but during the Chicano Movement it was used for equality in the United States and as a visual representation of the fight for independence in Mexico, the farm workers struggle in the 1960s and as a symbol of justice. According to Raul A. Reyes an attorney and member of the USA Today Board of Contributors stated, âTo the present day, Our Lady of Guadalupe remains a powerful symbol of Mexican identity and faith, and her image is associated with everything from motherhood to feminism to social justiceâ(2016). As a Chicana, it is our duty to keep our traditions alive and continue to support them. To me she is not only the mother of all men and women but she is a sign of hope and more than just a saint. Every year during the night of Dec. 11 on the vigil of her feast thousands of faithful come to the shrine to sing to the Virgin all over the world. On December,11 my family goes every year to The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Bernard located in Manhattan, where many gather and wait on line to enter the church for a short mass where we honor and thank her for our family, health, the many blessings, and for being our hope in difficult situations. As I grow order she is one of the many beliefs I will carry throughout my life because she is important not only to me but to my community.

1) I think overall, you mentioned how my structure of this essay is different and that I don’t really need to say that certain scenes symbolize something. I think I worded it wrong but I guess I was trying to say what those scenes and colors meant to me in my point of view.
2) I was wondering what you meant by that I should attribute the Korean lyrics?
3) The feedbacks were actually helpful and I feel like it helped me understand better as to how my song/song lyrics should be like. When I writing the third paper I was aiming for a different structure and to not go all informative but a mix of everything. I’m just sort of struggling of making my revision at least 600 words. I do have a plan of including an interlude before the song so it sets the mood of what the song is going to be about.
If you missed class today, please read the comments on your music review and post a response with the following:

I WILL ALSO DISTRIBUTE THE ESSAY FOR THE FINAL EXAM IN THURSDAY’S CLASS!
XXXTentacion And His Mind that we never got to figured out.
Album: Â âSKINSâ
Song: âTRAIN FOODâ
 Â
I remember when i first heard the song âTRAIN FOODâ it hit me like a moving train that has run off track. I tend to listen to simpler songs, songs with meanings like depression and bad breakups. But this one was different, i’ve never experienced a song like this.
I was laying down in bed and it was almost midnight, it was pretty cold outside but i still had my fan on. I was wrapped in my fluffy blanket, and had my headphones in my ears ready to listen to my late night tunes. I always listen to music before i go to sleep since i have trouble sleeping and this helps. I go onto my Apple music and see that XXXTentacion album âSKINSâ was released. I listened to the first song and loved it, âTRAINFOODâ is the third song listed on the album. At first i was listening to it more like a regular song but certain lyrics stood out to me.
âHis frequency distorted quick, i seen it in his image, I shouldâve run right Fucking there.â
This line caught my attention and i really started to pay closer attention to what he was saying. I also realized how this song almost was like he was talking, it didnât sound like he was singing or even rapping just sounded like he was having a conversation with listeners. As i listened to the rest of the song what really scared me was when he said âNow itâs here, Death has now arrived, times finally up.â After the song finished all i kept thinking about is that line. It wouldnât leave my head for hours trying to figure out what he meant. Until i decided to dig deeper.
XXXTentacion album âSKINSâ released December 7, 2018 months after his death in middle June. He was shot in Deerfield Beach by Dedrick D. Williams and shortly after died on the way to the hospital. When âSKINSâ was released it showed lots of deep symbolism and dark themes in his lyrics. The lyrics can be disturbing to read and analyze but also listening to his sound in music can be hard to listen too. But analyzing further itâs interesting to know what kind of message he was trying to send overall to listeners. Â
I remember I had walked home that day
Content with all my misery
(This line is very powerful in its own sense, and he says this line a few times in the song. It just shows that he has given up and has comes to term that its always going to be miserable for him)
Told my self it’d get better, no clue what there was next to me
(Kept telling himself it will get better, but it just all got worse from there)
Remember there was people, walkin’, talkin’ in the distance
I was dressed for winter weather
But the summer rays were kissing me
I, I was lost
So I took a different path, in the distance he awaited me
(meaning he had taken a different path with drugs and violence in his life at this point, i think than he realized because of this path heâs chosen now he faces death because of it.)
Had no weapon, I’m guessing his hands were just enough for me
Was no question, I’m guessing he laughed just at the sight of me
I was lost
(This could mean his history with drugs and gang violence)
I remember I had walked home that day
Content with all my misery
Told my self it’d get better, no clue what there was next to me
Remember there was people, walkin’, talkin’ in the distance
I was dressed for winter weather
But the summer rays were kissing me
I, I was lost
And there he was, his presence was alarming
As he approaches casual, we talk ’bout self-harming
He told me “kid, you shouldn’t be walkin’ on your own”
He smiled and laughed, and pat my back
He said, “how far are you from home?”
I said, “maybe 30 minutes”
His frequency distorted quick, I seen it in his image
I should’ve run right fucking there, I-
(I think he may be talking about death here, the conversation he is having is with death. In a lot of his songs he always talks about death, and i think all along he always knew he would die very young)
You ever woke up on a train track
With no motherfuckin’ clothes on?
Death before your eyes, you prayin’ to God, but ain’t no response
Trying to scream for hope, just a shoulder that you can lean on
But ain’t nobody coming, so you scream on
And scream on and scream on
(I think he’s saying that he’s on this train of death, he canât stop it. Thereâs no brake, thereâs no way out it keeps moving faster by the minute he canât comprehend it.)
While this evil fuck laugh at you?
(The grim reaper watching him struggle for his life)
Train getting closer, you still surprised that he battered you
Tears falling harder and harder, minutes get minuscule
Could’ve had a son or a daughter, now what you finna do? Â
You finna die here on this train track
‘Cause clearly after death, ain’t no way you can find your way back
(After death thereâs no way out, no reset button)
Thinking ’bout your previous memories, going way back
All them fucking dreams ’bout the diamond chain and the Maybach
(wasted all his time dreaming about materialistic items than thinking about the more important things in his life)
Now your time finally up
Ask yourself the final question, is you going down or up?
(Asking the question if he’s going to heaven or hell)
Recollectin’ all the moments that you never gave a fuck
(i wanted to say think i think he was scared of death which i do think at one point he was. I feel that as the song goes on he doesnât even care if he dies anymore)
Now it’s here, death has now arrived, time’s finally up
(Reading this is very dark and just shows how all along he knew death was coming and in fact heâd been faced with it many times before. Heâs been so close with death almost like he can touch it, but finally itâs got him)
XXXTentacion is an interesting character to me, His music was always daunting, Iâve never heard music like his before. Artist more like Billie Eilish , the neighborhood, or Nirvana were more my tune. I guess you could say XXX is almost like if Kurt Cobain where to start rapping, I feel like his music would be similar  to XXXâs music.(Minus the violent behavior that’s described in XXXâs songs)
But XXXTentacion always peaked my interest, i always had a thing for unruly and misunderstood artist. My fascination for him was like the same fascination I had for Kurt Cobain, I spent countless nights and day trying to figure Cobain out. And XXX reminds so much like him, but obviously not entirely because XXX and Kurt are still completely different.
XXXTENTACION also known as Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy had a very violent and traumatic past. Onfroy spent a lot of time in and out of juvenile detention centers for charges like robbery and assault.XXXTentacionâs first breakout hit was âLook At Me!â his mugshot was the song cover. He was in jail when the song started to become more mainstream, XXX was charged with Witness Tampering, And the assault and battery of his pregnant girlfriend. XXX use to rap about things like beating a gay male at a detention center. He often rapped about very violent topics and even Spotify threatened to remove his music because of its vile nature. Some people have struggled trying to figure out XXXTENTACION, I know a lot people wonât support him even in the slightest for the charges that was made against him and all the violent things he has done and openly shared with the world. Some people even wanting him to die, saying he deserved it. And just maybe he thought so too, why else would he constantly talk about his death? Maybe he already knew all the bad things he did and saw he didnât deserve to be alive. That could be the reason why he knew he would die so young or maybe he wanted to die young. But our questions arenât answered and probably never will.
Iâll end with this tweet from XXXTentacion from December 10 2016.
