Microdontia and Macrodontia presentation
In 2300, the course was supposed to present a research project at the college health fair because the COVID-19 pandemic it was cancelled.
Extreme cultural practices / The canine bud removal practice
This topic was chose because still nowadays are many dangerous practices that put children at risk, not only their health but their lives due to cultural beliefs or myths.
In areas of Sub-Africa and Asian countries, the canine bud removal practice is very common. They believe this practice relieves children from fever, malaria, and diarrhea. The parents took their 1 to 3 years old sick child to the healers to get the canine removed to treat the child’s disease. There, the healer removes the canine bud without anesthesia, archaic unsterilized tools, or just their hands. As a result, these children have a slow and painful recovery. Some children die from infections, and others contract a bloodborne disease that affects their quality of life at such early age. Those who survive present partial edentulism and malocclusion.
Homelessness and Oral Health – Service learning presentation for Public Health course.
This presentation discusses the barriers that impedes this population from obtaining oral care. According to many research papers this population has an increase prevalence of dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, and abscesses than low-income population. Despite the effort of government programs and non-profit resources this community suffer from the consequences of having a neglected oral health.
