SOIL: Because of many lakes the soil is rich and closer to atlantic is sandier

CLIMATE: Upstate New York has humid continental, moderate climate. Hudson River AVA is affected by maritime air coming  from Atlantic therefore the climate is milder.

GRAPE VARIETY: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon ( Allegheny Valley), Concord, Riesling, Chardonnay (Finger Lakes), Riesling, Pinot Noir,Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc (Hudson River Valley)

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANT FIGURE: Dr Konstantin Frank – first Vitis Vinifera wine maker grown everywhere in Upstate NY, planted near water because of moderating temp. Hudson is the oldest wine region, where wines has been produced continually for over 300 years.

AVA of Northern Virginia: The Hudson River Valley with its historic small villages full of charming houses, antique shops, and cafes, provides views of stately green hills sloping toward the river. Many of the hills are covered with vineyards that are sheltered by the ridges and rock cliffs. The Hudson river with its steep palisaded valley acts as a conduit for maritime air and weather patterns coming off the Atlantic.
