There are three drawings here. You need to be more rigorous in your horizontal lines from the vanishing point. They are curved in your drawing, not straight.

Drawings: the rendering of perspective is good in the Tragic Stage, but I think you can practice making longer strokes with the pencil (instead of multiple small strokes). The Appia drawing needs more gradation in shading. You are missing quite a number of drawings.

Act I: missing. Please see me during office hours ASAP.

    Image folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vj9ojPQqhLuUwWDl_CfDdZOz6I_nV8MW

Images: some of your drawings appear to have been done by someone else, particularly the ones that were not sketched in your sketchbook (isometric drawing of building, Appia’s Sacred Forest). Please resubmit your own work.

    No class notes.

Act I: good report, particularly the section describing how people move through the space. You mention “green spaces” but I don’t know of any in the area. There are open plazas for people to move in indeterminate ways, but these are not green. What about the street performers? I think a more careful observation of the types of buildings (specific descriptions) (you really saw wooden structures?) and the different types of people (locals and tourists move differently) would have given the reader a more precise feeling of the place. Your research questions are excellent and you began to answer them here.

Act II: Good report. A couple of notes: are you sure there’s a combination of neo-classical and art deco design elements? There are very different styles and I think would clash. Where did you get this information? I could be wrong, but you should show us these elements in your presentation. Here’s a good source on the Lunt-Fontanne: https://s-media.nyc.gov/agencies/lpc/lp/1350.pdf.  A few of your images are mislabled. A seating plan is not the same thing as an architectural plan. If you can’t find an elevation or plan, please make sure you state that you are using seating plans and they are not to scale. Also, the photographs are not “isometric” drawings. They are just photographs. Finally, your images of the old Globe theatre looks nothing like the facade of the new Lunt Fontanne. These must be of a different theater in NYC. Perhaps there was more than one theatre named the Globe? Can you find out why the architects named it the Globe? It would seem to make sense if they used Renaissance style design for a theater called the Globe.

    Drawings: missing

Act I: Since you are doing a different kind of project than others, I understand that it will be impossible for you to answer some questions. I’m sorry you can’t find more information about the old theatre. A few questions: if it was a military base, why is the FDNY involved now? Even though people using the park are not going to the theatre, what are they doing there? You could still have spent more time explaining the area — the walkways between the buildings, etc. Are there any other abandoned buildings in the area, or have some been renovated? Is there a flag painted on the walls with only 48 stars (how do you know it was built pre-Hawaii and Alaska)? Your first research question is very good, but the second is really impossible to know. Try to ask a question that can lead you towards more concrete information.

Act II: Good job describing the colonial style of the architecture. Not sure “overuse” of white is what you meant. Do you mean “abundant”? Your bibliography is pretty thin, considering you still have so many outstanding questions about the use of the theatre and the historical community. Although there is some information available in the links you found, you haven’t drawn from these sources to find out more about how the area operated. Perhaps, too, you could find out how theaters operated on other military bases (if you can’t find anything out about Totten). The Wikipedia page on the fort has two dozen additional citations. Did you follow up on any of these? Did you find out anything at all about Fort Totten looking at the NY Times archive from the 1920s-1950s? There must be some news about the use of the space. Did you look through these old photos and postcards yet? https://abandonednyc.smugmug.com/keyword/fort%20totten/i-2LxFK8z

    Class Notes: excellent

Drawings: of those that are here, very good. The goal of the Sacred Forest drawing was to practice your shading, and this is missing. Look at list of required sketches to fill in the blanks.

Act I: I’m confused. You are doing a project on the NYSF Public Theatre but you are writing about the area around 59th street east. The Public Theatre is in the village. Did you see a production at the Public?
