Different kind of ropes:

natural fiber- limiting factor is determined by how strong each fiber is and how long the fibers are.

Different types of natural fiber rope are: Hemp, Sisal, and Manila

synthetic- limiting factor is how strong the raw material is.

Diffetent types of synthetic rope are: Nylon, Polyester, and Polypropylene.

Rope Construction:

Twisted- individual fibers are twisted to make a thread. Threads are twisted to make a strand. Strands are twisted to make a rope.

Parallel Core- inside is not twisted. Outside is a jacket to hold the core together. All the strength is in the core.

Braided- double braided- core and sheath are both braided.

Knots reduce strength of rope by 50%

Inspecting rope: visual- every time rope is used, make sure there is no visual discoloration or deformation in the rope.

annual in depth inspection- feel along the entire length of the rope for any deformations.
