Gamma Epsilon Tau, whose name stands for the science or the knowledge of the art and craft of the letters, was organized under the auspices of the International Graphic Arts Educational Association (IGAEA) at the 1953 Conference on the Printing Education, which was held in New York.

Gamma Epsilon Tau is a College-level national organization with local chapters.
