Setup Instructions on http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/test-your-system.html
Description: Notepad test for App Inventor Setup
as shown in http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/test-your-system.html

To see if Java Web Start is working properly, click the orange "Launch" button (in the http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/test-your-system.html site) to try to launch a program from the Web. This test should download and run a file (notepad.jnlp), which creates a window named "Notepad" where you can enter text. Depending on your browser, you might have to manually open the jnlp file after it downloads.

If Notepad does not run, then the test fails. Do not go on to try to use App Inventor. See below for possible solutions.
If the test passes, then close the Notepad window and go on

The website gives suggestions as to what might be the cause of a failing test, leading you to a possible solution. If/once you find the way around the issue, then you may proceed with the next step of installing App Inventor software into your electronic system. Just keep following the instructions given on the site and soon enough you should be able to start working (& even playing with) in the App Inventor software application ... making your own apps!!!
