  1. JUXTAPOSITION- The fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.
  2. LATERAL- of, at, toward, or from the side or sides.
  3. MODERN- new and intended to be different from traditional styles.
  4. IRREGULAR SYMMETRY-  without symmetry, even shape and formal arrangement.
  5. BIOMORPHISM- painted, drawn, or sculptured free form or design suggestive in shape of a living organism, especially an ameba or protozoan.
  6. BROWNFIELD- a former industrial or commercial site where future use is affected by real or perceived environmental contamination.
  7. CONTEMPORARY- belonging to or happening in the present.
  8. DECONSTRUCTIVISM- freedom of form and the open manifestation of complexity in a building rather than strict attention to functional concerns and conventional design elements.
  9. FUTURISM- a new way of thinking in the arts that that started in the 1920 and 1930 that tried to express through a range of art forms the characteristics and images of the modern age, such as machines, speed, movement, and power.
  10. DE STIJL- was a circle of dutch abstract artist who promoted a style of art based on a strict geometry of horizontals, verticals and primary colors.
  11. CUBISM- highly influential visual arts style of the 20th century that emphasized the flat, two dimensional surface of the picture plane.
  12. CONSTRUCTIVISM- a style or movement in which assorted mechanical objects are combined into abstract mobile structural forms.
  13. THE INTERNATIONAL STYLE-  characterized by the use of steel and reinforced concrete, wide windows, uninterrupted interior spaces, simple lines, and strict geometric forms.
  14. MID-CENTURY MODERN- characterized by clean lines, organic and streamlined forms, and lack of ornamentation.
  15. BRUTALISM- a stark style of functionalist architecture, especially of the 1950's and 1960's characterized by the use of steel and concrete in massive blocks.
