  • Biden's September 1 speech
  • #80520

Here are some highlights from President Biden’s speech on Thursday night, September 1, at Philadelphia, an undisguised appeal for Democratic victories in the midterm congressional elections.

Was it a good idea or a bad idea for Biden to say the things he said? Republicans call the speech divisive. Do they have a point? I invite your thoughts if you feel like posting them. President Biden’s speech on September 1, 2022, in Philadelphia was a strong and direct appeal to defend American democracy, which has drawn both praise and criticism. I believe it has good and bad both idea. Bellow some example
    Good Idea:
    1. Biden’s emphasis on the threats to democracy highlights the seriousness of the political climate.
    2. His speech aimed to energize the Democratic base and appeal to independents concerned about the future of the country.
    3. The speech at Independence Hall added symbolic weight, framing the current political struggles as part of a long-standing fight to preserve democratic values.
    Bad Idea:
    1. Republicans argue that the speech was delivered by singling out Trump and his supporters, Biden risked alienating a significant portion of the electorate.
    2. Critics see the speech political, especially given its timing before the midterms. This perception might undermine its effectiveness, as some voters may view it as more about campaigning than governing.
    3. The direct attack on Trump and MAGA Republicans might not only mobilize Democratic voters but also galvanize Trump’s base, potentially increasing turnout among his supporters as well.
Republicans have a point in calling the speech divisive, as it clearly delineated between Biden’s vision for the country and that of Trump and his supporters. Whether this approach was beneficial or detrimental depends on its impact on voter behavior.
