SBS 3201 : Gender, Dress & Society

This course explores theories concerning appearance, clothing, and fashion, and their impact on cultural identities, perceptions of gender, and consumption of fashion products. It examines contemporary attire from both domestic and international cultures. Dress is viewed as a form of communication, reflecting individuality and social status within various societal structures including family, economy, religion, and politics. By analyzing the technologies and styles of dress within a society, connections are made to behavioral patterns such as beliefs regarding morality, hygiene, rituals, and beauty.g
