I am currently interning at WPC (Womenâs Press Collective) but before I applied to WPC I had applied to a small studio in Park Slope. I went for an interview at the small studio, the supervisor asked me few questions and I showed him my portfolio and resume. At the end of the interview which by the way lasted about 5 minutes the supervisor told me that he was going to call me. Few days passed and there was no call from the supervisor and since he told me he was going to call me I lost hope because we know that most of the time the phrase âwe will call youâ means that they will never call you. There for I decided to contact the professor and also to look on blackboard for more internship options.
I was a bit nervous because I thought I wasnât going to get an internship but I got an email from professor Stella Nicolaou where she told me about WPC. I decided to call the office, I called more then 10 times but no one answered, so I decided to go to the office the next day since the professor told me they were having an orientation. The day of the orientation I rang the bell and a woman came down to open the door and she greeted me with a smile. I told her who I was and the college I attend, and I asked her if I could intern at WPC and right away she answered, âYESâ. I stayed for the orientation and right after I started my internship. I was given a project right away. The project I was assigned is to redesign their flyers, which they been using for ten year and has never being redesigned.
Even though I have been at WPC two days so far Iâm enjoying my internship and my supervisor Lisa is super nice. Now that more than a week passed by the guy from the small studio in Park Slope called me to tell me I could intern there. WPC is an organization that is run by volunteers, they help people and communities to publish their need, stories, etc. they give them a voice.
