  1. Hi my name is Juan Carlos Pinzon but I prefer to just be called Carlos and I am very excited to start college and transition into my adulthood during these upcoming years. I have always been very interested in learning anything to do with mathematics since like physicians always say mathematics is the language of the universe and the more you learn the language the better you will understand the world around you. I enjoy very much learning as much as I can from any math teacher I have had in the past and have always challenged myself in learning all I could from their classes. I am a visual learner and I always try and find a way of understanding things through doing as examples and problems of new mathematics that I learn on my own to understand it. I am somewhat used to lectures since in my high school I took certain college courses that gave me an early look into what a lecture would look like in college and how to best handle and listen to it. Though now I see how college is now for almost a week now and I feel very excited to continue learning and getting to know better the way a college student learns.

  2. Hello my name is Shantae Bromfield, 24 years old. I was born in NewYork, my nationality is Jamaican, I’m youngest of my siblings .

Math is honestly one of my weakest subjects ever since I was in elementary school.

Math is connected to major because we will have to do measurements.

Working in groups helps me learn better.

  3. Hello, my name is Alonzo Osorio. I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I come from a family that is responsible, full of traditions, and always looking for new ways to improve and be creative.
    Some of my hobbies include:
    -Cooking
    -Reading
    -Exploring
    -Music
I am currently in a Btech computer engineer major and I plan on getting a career in that area or become an electrical engineer based on experience gained over the years of my life. I want to improve my knowledge and skills in math that will help me pursue my future endeavors. This is connected to my career in every aspect since I will need to use formulas, measurements, and numbers to get things done.

I feel like we learn better when we work together(lecture), before going on to doing it on our own(Activities).

    1. It is important that you have set your expectations for yourself. That will help you plan and work towards your goals. I will keep in mind working together. We can discuss things as I lecture. (Mixed lecture with sharing ideas and working as much as the time permits during the class). Working on your own is necessary to process things and practice.

  4. Hi, my name is Aisha Hairs. I am from Brooklyn,NY. My parents are from Jamaica & Guyana. During the pandemic I recently starting working out, and i am a supervisor at starbucks.

I see myself becoming a nurse in the long run, or thriving in a career where I can help others through communication.

I love math. I think math is a very complex yet exciting subject. Sometimes I hate how much work has to go into solving one problem.

I aspire to be a nurse so being great at math is needed. Everything is calculations. If you accidentally give a patient too much of a substance it could be fatal. I also work at starbucks where everything is calculation also. Making beverages has their standard calculations.

Lecturing helps me learn best. I like to absorb all the information and get a great visual on what I am learning. I then am able to try it myself and still ask questions during and after the process.

    1. Thanks for the information. I like the fact that you know the importance of math in your future profession. I also, see a great point that you are rising here. Whether I lecture or give an example to solve the main important thing is that you get enough information for the topics. You always have to work on the topic, examples, and practice enough to grasp the concepts. I also see something important in your reply, and that is the opportunity to ask more questions after you study. That is how you gain more in-depth knowledge.

  5. Hi everyone I am Anthony pietromonico and this is my freshman year of college and my major is civil engineering , im liking the amount of freedom that I have and the fact that I am (pretty much) only taking classes on want instead of what fits the school year like high-school.

  6. hello my name is Jeffrey Im 17 years old live in Nassau county one of my goals is to graduate as a construction manager I like doing construction like things since I was little some of my challenges in my math class is practicing on my own I Never liked to practice problem even If I wasn’t as good at them and that wouldn’t help me for tests this is a course connected to my career seeing that I’m need to be good with measurement and solving for different type of things the teacher that helps me the most is when they go step by step in the math problem and then after give us some practice question to do during class and check it at the end

  7. Hello Professor and Class,

My name is Salvatore Serravillo-Graci (Graci pronounced Gra-Chi). A lot of people like to call me Sal but, if you prefer another nickname for me, I’m open to all. Before college, I’ve always been really big into Computers and form of new technology that has been released. I have been working on computers since I was 12 years old (Building, repairing, and helping others) and recently have been doing more creative stuff with computers like coding, modding for video games, and learning programs like AutoCAD, Paint.net, and Python. Math will really help me improve in these subjects because a lot of the work is all done with problems and equations. The good thing is I really enjoy solving problems and because of this Math is one of my favorite subjects. Aside from Technology, I also enjoy reading poetry, being outside, and meeting others. I love being very creative and also enjoy helping others with the information I know. I also love having conversations with others because I can learn more about the people around me and also can learn more about myself and possibly improve. It’s very unfortunate that we all won’t be able to see each other in person but, I’m hoping to meet all of you in the future.

  8. Hello, my name is Vishal Ramkhelawan. I’m 18 and I was born in New york. However, both of my parents came from Guyana. Currently, I’m working to hit my goal of getting my bachelor’s in mechanical engineering. I’ve always loved to learn about cars and I do play a lot of sports such as basketball and table tennis. I always found math as a fun little challenge personally since I use it daily. I usually understand steps and math in general by looking at how a problem is solved and replicating it till I get the hang of it, so I would say B would fit the best. I also tend to find shortcuts eventually and make it overall easier.

  9. 10. Hello everyone, My name is Mohammed Islam. I am 18 years old and my major is mechanical engineering. I am planning to become an automotive engineer and I am very excited to pursue that. I think I might struggle this year in algebra/trig due to my experience in high school as I had multiple different teachers and some of them haven’t taught me that well as others so my knowledge math wise is questionable definitely. I hope I can use my resources and stay on track to get through this with the support of my peers!

    1. I hope you are not given up on the support from your Professor. I want you to let me know how you feel about this class. How the class site, syllabus, teaching, etc are.
And, please do not forget to follow my instructions, study, practice using the resources that are available to you.
      Best of luck!

  14. Hi, my name is Malachi Davis. I love to do art, cook, and run track and field. I am African- American and I speak English. I see myself doing jobs in architecture, graphic design, or even being a professional athlete. My main problem in math is trying to remember the formulas to solve problems. This course helps in what I want to do in life especially in architecture because I would need my blueprints to be precise so that construction can go smoothly. I learn best through visualization because it allows me to see how something is done so I can apply it to different problems.

  15. Hi my name is Katherine Rodriguez I look forward the rest of the semester. My major is dental hygienist and I enjoy doing activities outside, hanging out with friends and family and like to think of myself as free spirited.
