Stories In The Frame
A photo can tell many things, when I think of photos I think about the tons of stories that are behind them. A picture opens up a whole new world to people. It can be seen differently depending on the context in which it is viewed. For example it can be personal, culturally or historically viewed. A photo holds memories although the moment doesn’t last forever a photo can last a very long time. For example Teju Cole writes âPhotography could reach eternity through the momentâ, this means that a photograph has the power to transcend time and capture a moment in a way that is both eternal and fleeting, it captures a moment in time preserving it for the future. I am not the type to take many pictures I like living in the moment, but when I do I tend to take pictures of the things that mean alot to me for example the three pictures I took âMy Peaceâ, âA form of Self- Expressionâ, and âGolden Hourâ are a few that show my perspective of a wonderful world to me. Even though they are not breathtaking pictures they really stood out to me and are meaningful to me.
âMy Peaceâ
On wednesday the 18th of September on my way home I stumbled upon this breathtaking view, I was stressed due to all the work I had to complete for school when I looked up and saw this beautiful view trees bright green, this stunning tunnel between Brooklyn bridge Blvd and Jay Street, people smiling, I felt at peace I even stood there for a couple of minutes I felt stress free. This moment reminded me of what Tejo Cole said âIt is the photo that takes youâ. And yes I agree it is the photo that takes you, when I took a picture of this moment my whole commute home i thought to myself âwow this was the energy boost that i needed â i kept looking at this picture it brought me peace and happiness. This vibrant urban scene, the lush green trees and the calm atmosphere of the city street evoke a sense of tranquility. The people in the image seem relaxed and engaged in their daily activities, adding to the peaceful ambiance. The overall effect is one of harmony and balance inviting the viewer to step in a world of the image and this photo did just that.
    âA Form Of Self Expressionâ
One Saturday night I was in a rush to get to a meeting that I was running late to when I came across this graffiti wall. I stopped to take a picture. To me graffiti is a way of expression, a form of art and although to others it may seem unsettling to me it opens a whole other world. I still donât know what this means but it makes me wonder who did this, what did they want to express, what were they feeling when they painted this. The brick wall with colorful graffiti and the word love written on it made me wonder if this person is in love or happy. This image meant alot to me because I personally like to wonder, I like graffiti. And this image also reminded me of my childhood. I’d take out my sketchbook and draw graffiti too. I feel that it is a louder way of expression of ideas and thoughts though colors and different sizes of letters, it is more exciting and mysterious.
âGolden Hourâ
Golden Hour, I chose this title for this picture because when i think gold i think valuable, rare, and appealing. And this image is exactly that the moment the start of my morning is seeing this amazing stunning view of the sunrise. This image is special to me because I was spending time with my family. This is something we did together. We woke up super early to go and see the sunrise. I remember my mom and brother sitting beside me leaning on each other’s shoulders and just feeling calm and peaceful. It was a moment I didn’t want to end. Sontag says âIt hardly Matters what activities are photographed so long as photographs get taken and are cherishedâ and i agree because even though this moment couldn’t last forever having this image till this day everytime i look at it, it takes me back and it makes me really happy. I really cherished this moment having the people I love most in this whole world and looking at this amazing view it felt as if it was just us and nobody else in the world.
These three images show just how wonderful the world is to me. These images hold a special moment where I felt peace, happy, and mysterious. It showed how all of us can tell hundreds of stories and it opens up to a variety of perspectives. It reminded me that yes indeed the camera is a tool to capture moments but also a tool to carry out these moments forever and relive them everytime we look back at these images.
