As discussed in class today, your first weekly memorandum assignment is due at the beginning of class next week. It should be printed on a single sheet of paper and follow these parameters:
- Single sheet of paper
- 1” margins
- Double-spaced with no space added before or after paragraphs/hard returns (for example, see this page in regard to Microsoft Word)
- 12-point, Times New Roman
- Begin with Memo block in the top left corner (TO, FROM, DATE, SUBJECT)
- Write your memo’s content in the space below the memo header block. Your writing should fill that space until you reach the last line on the first page.
- Make your words count.
- Avoid using unnecessary phrases or couching your responses.
- Focus on facts, details, and interesting explanations.
- All responses should be written in complete sentences.
- Your memo should resemble the sample embedded below.
For your first weekly memorandum’s content, I would like you to write about yourself! Use the content area to introduce yourself to me. Please include your major and career goals. Discuss your favorite classes in your major and/or work experience in your field. Interesting facts about yourself and your hobbies would also be good to include. Then, write about what you hope to get out of our class (this last point is very helpful to me as I think about future assignments and lectures).
Your completed memorandum should look similar to this (but as I said in class, if you need more space, you may omit the blank line between the memo block at the top and the beginning of your memo’s content.
Remember, each week’s memo is one page and no more, and the page must be filled with at least 250 words of content as shown above.
Print out your memo and turn it in at the beginning of our next class. We will use your written responses as the basis for a beginning of class exercise.
If you complete the assignment late, you may email me a copy of your work as a Word docx email attachment. This will stop you from losing any points as detailed on the syllabus for late work. Then, you have to hand in your printed copy at the beginning of our next class to receive credit on the assignment.
These assignments are graded on best effort and following directions.
