A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. Colin Powell
Hello Everyone and welcome to my e-portfolio,
In this page you will learn some details about my journey through the dental hygiene program here at New York City College of Technology. First, let me introduce myself, my name is Elizabeth Dutan, I was born and raised right here in Brooklyn, New York with roots tracing me back to a small country in South America, Ecuador. I chose the quote about because I have seen, heard and experienced the hard work it takes to achieve your goals. I have been through so many career choices, from pediatrician to nursing and ultimately graduating with a BA in psychology, that I find myself taking on another career in the dental hygiene field. Although having a degree in psychology is satisfying it also contributed to my decision to take on this new career along with my 10 year working experience in the dental field. While working in different dental offices, I have seen how patients either leave satisfied or unsatisfied by their treatment which enlightened an interest in the dental field. I wanted to be a reason to why patients leave with a smile from a dental visit while keeping their oral health at an optimal level. This is when I decided to enter the dental hygiene program at NYCCT.
During these past two years in the dental hygiene program I have learned a great deal of managing with patients, with different condition both physically, mentally, and medically; while promoting optimal oral and general health care services. Gratefully to the faculty, in both the classroom and clinic setting, because of them I was able to learn through there experience and knowledge that there are many ways to provide oral health care services to each individual; as well as improving myself as a healthcare provider and individual.
It has being a though two year program but with the help of the faculty, colleagues, and advisers, I am proud to have taken on this journey to provide quality and beneficial service to each individual I meet. Once I am officially a registered dental hygienist I will work on improving my skills and knowledge to bring my patients a longer lasting smile.
