Welcome to 20th Century Dress and Culture! I am Prof. Inés Corujo-Martín, and I am looking forward to working with you all this semester.
This class is a survey of fashion history, from the end of the 19th century to the present, offering an overview of the many influences that have shaped the development of clothing. Over the course of the semester, we will explore clothing in different historical periods and its relation to economics, politics, religion, art, identity, and cultural history. We will also delve into issues affecting the contemporary fashion industry through readings, videos, films, and discussions. You will also have the opportunity to participate in field trips and learn from renowned scholars in the field.
On this site you will find a description of readings & weekly topics, as well as links to useful college resources to help you navigate your college experience. OpenLab will work as an additional “textbook” for this course. All information included here can also be found on Blackboard. You will complete weekly homework, participate in the discussion board, and submit all assignments through Blackboard.
