The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is the largest public transportation agency in North America, serving a population of 15.3 million people in the 5,000-square-mile area running from New York City (City) through Long Island. It has become increasingly common for transit operators to provide real-time information (RTI) to passengers about the location or predicted arrival times of transit vehicles.
As this industry practice has increased, the body of literature evaluating the passenger impacts of this new information source has also grown, which presents an opportunity to synthesize findings. Synthesizing initial trends is particularly important for transit providers who want to understand how RTI may be impacting their passengers, such as the MTA in New York City. Subsequently, this study aims to conduct a literature review of prior studies evaluating the passenger impacts of RTI, and the findings are discussed in the context of the New York City Subway to identify important areas for future research.
First, the RTI is presented that can be fixed due to highly occurred delays, then the noise factor which we hear every day in the subways, and lastly the protection of the passengers from falling in the train tracks. Train platforming is critical for ensuring the safety and efficiency of train operations within the stations, especially when unexpected train delays occur.
MTA recent Incidents
There have been several cases of homicides but let’s look at recent ones from this year. Mostly women were targeted, either due to race or feminism or that they are easy target, we don’t know yet but, in most cases, women were a target.
On 11th May 2022, a Bangladeshi Hunter College student was pushed onto the tracks, she died on spot after she was crushed under train.
Another time on 15th Jan 2022, a 40-year-old woman was pushed onto tracks where she died on spot.
