Additional materials may be necessary.

Paper:

Supplies for submitting your work:

General Supplies:

  • small box or travel container for your supplies
  • portfolio to transport your work (larger than 14″x17″)
  • 1 self-healing cutting mat
  • 1 roll drafting or removable tape
  • small craft scissors (pointed end)
  • Exacto knife and extra blades
  • metal ruler
  • triangle
  • glue sticks or fabric/craft glue
  • old magazines or paper scraps

Drawing Supplies:

  • graphite pencils (Venus or similar 6B, 2B, HB, 2H, 4H)
  • pencil sharpener (basic metal)
  • eraser (magic rub, mars or gum)
  • inking pens (.02, .05, and brush – Pigma Micron or similar)

Digital Supplies:

  • Hard drive or flash drive to backup/transport work
  • Digital camera or phone with camera and cable

Painting Supplies: 

  • color wheel (small)
  • white and black gouache paints
  • Utrecht Designer Gouache, Set of 8 – Primaries includes:
    • black
    • white
    • rose tyrien or primary magenta
    • turquoise blue or primary cyan
    • brilliant yellow or primary yellow
    • flame red or primary red
    • ultramarine blue or primary blue
  • sable-type watercolor brushes (do not buy brushes for acrylic or oil)
    • FLAT:  1/2″ angle, #4
    • ROUND: #1, #5
  • two water containers (yogurt cups, soda bottles with tops cut off, soup cans)
  • palette (round 10-well)
  • cotton rags (old white t-shirts or scraps)

NOTE: Total cost should not exceed $150 (shop around) Also ask your friends where they got their supplies and don’t hesitate to seek help from the person working at the store.

    Sadly Pearl Paint (308 Canal St, NYC) has been shut down 🙁

    Bond St is the largest Blick location in manhattan. Utrecht was acquired by the company Blick Art Materials and most of them say Blick now.

    The second largest location is 20th and 6th Blick *cough* the one I work at
