Opioids and Its Effect on Oral Health
At the 2019 NYCCT Spring Wellness Fair, my colleague and I presented about opioids and its effect on the oral health. Our research presentation mainly focused on the many side effects within the oral cavity caused by opioid abuse such as salivary hypofunction which can lead to caries and taste impairment. My colleague and I chose this topic because it is relevant in the dental field as it can be prescribed as a painkiller and the overdose epidemic. Presenting at the Wellness Fair allowed us to reach and educate a larger audience and raise awareness.
