Is your degree completely online?

Due to the pandemic, the last few semesters have been held completely online. The College is currently planning to reopen back in phases. We are expecting some of our “EDU” laboratory courses to be back in person possibly beginning for the Spring 2022 semester. Some of the General Education courses will be returning to campus beginning Fall 2021.

How much are the courses?

The price of courses is dependent on whether or not you are a full-time student, part-time student, and/or current New York state resident.

How do I change my major to Career and Technical Teacher Education BSEd or Technology Teacher Education BSEd?

You will need to do our online departmental application and be accepted into the department. You will need to email Ruben Rodriguez (rurodriguez@citytech.cuny.edu) in the CTTE Department to get a link to the online departmental application.

What is the difference between Career and Technical Teacher Education BSEd or Technology Teacher Education BSEd?

The Career and Technical Teacher Education BSEd program is for individuals who have a background/associates degree/and or NYS license in a vocational trait such as: vehicle mechanical repair, cosmetology, plumbing, dental assisting, etc.

The Technology Teacher Education BSEd program is for any individual interested being certified and teaching technology based subjects in the New York state. No technology is background needed. 

Can I be an Early Childhood Teacher in this major?

No. Our department is only for certification in Career and Technical Teacher Education or Technology Teacher Education. 

How do I register for classes?

If you have applied and have been accepted into our department, you will need to email and inform the registrar office at Registrar@citytech.cuny.edu  with the acceptance letter. Once processed, our “EDU” courses will become available to you to enroll in on CUNYFirst.

How can I register for classes as a non-degree student?

You will need to contact the admissions office at admissions@citytech.cuny.edu and inform them that you want to register for “EDU” courses as a non-degree student. You will then fill out a non-degree application. Once processed, you will be given a CUNY EMPL ID number. You will need to email Ruben Rodriguez (rurodriguez@citytech.cuny.edu) in the CTTE Department with your CUNY EMPL ID number to get permission to register for the course. Ruben Rodriguez  will then use your CUNY EMPL ID number to give you electronic permission to enroll in the course on CUNYFirst. Once electronic permission has been given, you can complete your enrollment on CUNYFirst. 

Do I qualify for the Transition C in Technology Teacher Education?

The Intensive Transitional C Certificate program is offered for career changers and others who hold appropriate graduate professional degrees and wish to begin teaching prior to being certified as classroom teachers. Acceptable professional degrees include the bachelor’s or master’s degrees in engineering and technology fields such as architecture, industrial design, computer, electrical and electronics, telecommunications, mechanical, construction, civil, and structural engineering. 

The program is open only to candidates who have a written commitment from a hiring school or school district, which must provide mentoring to the candidate during the first two years of teaching. Candidates must enroll in the approved intensive program leading to the professional certificate in technology education.

The approved college program must submit a written agreement with the employing school or school district to establish a plan for two years of mentoring and assistance for the candidate by a support team comprised of a faculty member of the college program, the school principal or designee, and experienced certified teacher/mentor, and a school curriculum supervisor or specialist. To be eligible for the professional certificate, the candidate must complete three years of teaching and up to 20 semester hours of coursework in the technology education pedagogical core after receiving the Transitional C certificate. In addition, the candidate must have 30 semester hours of technology education content, some of which may have been completed in their baccalaureate or professional degree. The candidate’s transcript will be reviewed by the faculty to determine if this requirement has been met. Passing the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations is required for the professional certificate
