Blog Response #2 ā€“ Your Achiever Personae

Read pages 55-90 of The Essential Guide for Hiring & Getting Hired, by Lou Adler.Ā  What is the ā€œachiever personaeā€?Ā  What essential qualities does a professional achiever demonstrate?Ā  Do you have an achiever personae?Ā  If so, what does it look like?Ā  If not, what do you need to do to begin building one?

 

The achiever persona is what sets a mediocre candidate aside from a great candidate. These are candidates who may not be an exact match for the job but is probably the best selection for the job. People with achiever personae demonstrate an upward progress in their career. They often get chosen to work on tough projects, they receive awards, they get promoted faster than others and are recognized by their peers.

A professional achiever continuously demonstrates that they are the best of the group in multiple settings. Working on high performing teams is a part of the achiever pattern. Another quality is being able to think beyond the functional requirements of the job; being able to see beyond day-to-day issues. An achiever might be a strong manager who can attract and develop other strong people.

There is not enough evidence in my professional career thus far to qualify as having an achiever personae. However, I have made some strides that show potential for instance I have received promotions quicker than others; I have been assigned to tough projects and received recognition for my work.

My focus has been on completing my Bachelorā€™s; I believe that once this is completed my focus will shift towards my career. For me to have an achiever persona I need to go above and beyond my daily duties. Building a strong network especially with senior management is essential. I need to show diversity, innovation and adaptability to any situation. Most importantly, I need to be an excellent communicator with peers, managers and clients.
