Law In Culture

The Source I have chosen for my Law in Culture project is a film titled Just Mercy written and directed by Destin Cretton. The film is about a Harvard graduate lawyer named Stevenson who travels to Montgomery in an attempt to defend black people on death row who cannot afford proper representation. This film is a piece of non-fiction that was adapted by the memoir Just Mercy, created by attorney Bryan Stevenson who is also the protagonist in both film and book. I gravitated to the film more than the book because two of my favorite actors Michael B, Jordan and Jamie Fox play important roles in the film. I hope that with this film I will be able to dissect the law during the 80’s (where racism and sexism played a huge role) and compare it to the modern day law.
