Passcode: Welcome

Welcome from Dean and Program Director

The Program Director Professor Julian Williams and I would like to welcome you to City Tech, and more specifically to the Liberal Arts and Sciences programs, LAA and LAS. As a Liberal Arts & Sciences student, you have access to the course offerings and faculty expertise from 8 different academic departments, including African American Studies, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, English, Humanities, Mathematics, Physics, and Social Science.
While we hope to be able to see you in person later on during the coming academic year, for the time being we must maximize what we can through remote connections. Nevertheless, you can count on us to be part of your network of support. If you ever have any questions or concerns, or would like to discuss how to most effectively use the LAA or LAS program to accomplish your academic plans, then feel free to reach out to either one of us:
Professor Williams:      jwilliams@citytech.cuny.edu
Dean Vazquez-Poritz:   jvazquez-poritz@citytech.cuny.edu
If you would like to schedule a time to chat with me on zoom or on the phone, then please contact my assistant Ms. Iva Williams and she can arrange it. You can either call her at 718-260-5008 or email her at: iwilliams@citytech.cuny.edu
I am looking forward to seeing you at our New Student Orientation via zoom (see link above) on Thursday, August 27 from 12:45-2 pm.
This will give you a chance to chat with both of us, meet faculty members from the various departments, get your questions answered and hear the questions asked by your fellow students, hear from student leaders who have used the LAA/LAS programs as a stepping stone to continue onto Bachelors degrees and– perhaps most importantly– start to build that network of support which will be invaluable throughout your college career.
Best regards,
Dean Vazquez-Poritz

Fun Facts about the Liberal Arts and Sciences programs

Did you know…
  1. There are actually two different Liberal Arts and Sciences programs– the Associate in Science degree (LAS) is more focused on math and science, while the Associate in Arts degree (LAA) is more focused on the humanities.
  2. The LAA and LAS programs provide the most flexibility out of all degree programs at our college. While this flexibility can be used to explore a whole spectrum of academic disciplines, it also enables you to essentially design your own degree with a focus in Biology, Psychology or African American Studies, or just about any other discipline.
  3. By strategically choosing your classes, you can actually use these Associate degrees to complete the first half of many of our Bachelors degree programs, including Professional and Technical Writing, Biomedical Informatics, Applied Chemistry, Applied Computational Physics and Applied Math. In fact we’re even rolling out more Bachelors programs such as Health Communication in Fall 2020, and Data Analytics for Economics in Spring 2021.
