In the United States there is an overwhelming amount of jobs that require the person to have long hours of inactivity per day. The move from an industrialized society to an informational-technological based one has led to huge advancements in workplace productivity, however this has led many workplace environments to have little to no physical activity throughout the work day. According to healthdata.org, an estimated 160 million Americans are either obese or overweight. Nearly three-quarters of American men and more than 60% of women are obese or overweight. Obesity in full-time workers can lead to many health problems that lead to chronic illnesses

Full-time workers in the U.S. who are overweight or obese and have other chronic health conditions miss an estimated 450 million additional days of work each year compared with healthy workers– resulting in an estimated cost of more than $153 billion in lost productivity annually, according to a 2011 Gallup Poll.Medical expenses for obese employees are 42 percent than for a person with a healthy weight, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
