MODULES FOR LIBRARY

 

COLLECTIONS

COLLECTIONS: THE COLLECTIONS IS THE GRAND SPACE OF MY LIBRARY. SPANNING ABOUT 95’ X 45’ WITH A FLOOR TO CEILING HEIGHT OF ROUGHLY ABOUT 35’ , IT COVERS MORE THAN 4275 SQUARE FEET . IN IT CONTAINS BOTH THE BOOKS, SEATING AREA, TECHNOLOGY HUB AND A CONFERENCE ROOM. WITH ITS WEST FACING GLAZED WALL THAT WOULD HAVE ABOUT A 95% TRANSPARENCY, THE SPACE WOULD PROBABLY BE LIT ALL DAY BUT STILL NOT COMPROMISING THE INTEGRITY OF THE BOOKS. THE LARGE GLAZED WALLS ALSO CREATES A CONNECTION OF OUTDOOR TO INDOOR. I MADE THE SPACE GRAND SO AS TO APPEAL TO THE USERS, IT WOULD HOPEFULLY BE A SPACE WHERE THE USERS OF THE LIBRARY WOULD ALWAYS WANT TO COME BACK TO. THERE WILL ALSO BE SKYLIGHTS TO HELP BRING SOFT LIGHTS INTO THE SPACE THAT THE GLAZED NORTH FACING WALLS CANNOT PROVIDE.

PUBLIC

PUBLIC: THE PUBLIC SPACE WHICH COMPRISES OF PRESENTATION AREA AND CAFE IS ROUGHLY ABOUT 2100 SQUARE FOOT . IT IS ONE OF THE MAJOR PUBLIC SPACES OF THE BUILDING WITH THE CAFE THAT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND THE PRESENTATION SPACE. IT WOULD HAVE A TRANSPARENT GLAZED WALL THAT LOOKS INTO THE PUBLIC PLAZA SO AS TO PROVIDE BEAUTIFUL VIEWS FOR THE CAFE USERS. THE PRESENTATIONS ARE WHICH IS SORT OF A PRIVATE SPACE WOULD BE SEPARATED FROM THE CAFE WITH A TRANSPARENT WALL FOR ATTENUATION BUT STILL MAINTAINS ITS CONNECTION TO THE CAFE.

STAFF

STAFF: THE STAFF SPACES ARE GENERALLY PRIVATE OFFICES WITH A 200 SQUARE FEET LOUNGE/COPY SPACE. AT ABOUT 10’ FLOOR TO FLOOR, THEY HAVE WITH SAME SPACIAL HEIGHT AS THE CHILDREN’S LIBRARY WHICH ALSO HAPPENS TO BE ON THE SAME FLOOR. THESE SPACES WILL HAVE LITTLE OR NO VIEWS AS IT IS SAND WISHED BETWEEN THE CHILDREN’S LIBRARY AND THE COLLECTIONS ATRIUM.

SUPPORT

SUPPORT: THE SUPPORT SPACES GENERALLY THE TOILETS AND THE JANITOR CLOSETS AND STORAGE COVER ROUGHLY 980 SQUARE FEET IN TOTAL. ALTHOUGH I WOULD WANT THE SPACES SPREAD OUT THROUGHOUT THE FLOORS TO ACCOMMODATE OTHER SPACES. WITH EACH BATHROOM ROUGHLY ABOUT 200 SQUARE FOOT EACH DEPENDING ON HOW I END UP LAYING IT OUT, I WOULD END UP HAVING MORE OR LESS 4 IN TOTAL. THEY ARE RELATIVELY PRIVATE SPACES AND WILL HAVE LITTLE OR NO VIEWS.

TECH HUB

TECH HUB: THE TECHNOLOGY HUB WHICH IS MADE UP OF AN INFORMATION DESK, SEATING, CONFERENCE ROOM AND COMPUTER WORK STATIONS I ENDED UP COMBINING WITH THE GRAND COLLECTION SPACE BECAUSE I WANTED BOTH SPACES TO HAVE AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP TO EACH OTHER BECAUSE THE BOTH SHARE SOME OF THE SAME QUALITIES.

ENTRY LOBBY

ENTRY LOBBY : THE LOBBY SERVES AS A THRESHOLD BETWEEN THE COLLECTION SPACE AND THE PUBLIC WING. IT IS THE FIRST SPACE THAT YOU WALK INTO WHICH CONTAIN THE CIRCULATION DESK FOR GUIDE FOR CIRCULATING THE SPACE. IT IS ROUGHLY ABOUT 750 SQUARE FEET WITH A HEIGHT OF ABOUT 15’ . THE LOBBY I INTENTIONALLY MADE 15’ ALMOST HALF THE SIZE OF THE COLLECTIONS BECAUSE I WANTED TO GIVE DOMINANCE TO THE COLLECTIONS. THE SMALLER HEIGHT OF THE LOBBY ALSO MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR THE COLLECTIONS TO FEEL MUCH GRAND AS YOU APPROACH IT. THE WALLS OF THE LOBBY WHICH FACES THE PUBLIC PLAZA FORTUNATELY HAPPENS TO BE A NORTH FACING WALL AND WILL ALSO BE ABOUT 99% TRANSPARENT SO AS TO MAKE IT EACH FOR VISITORS TO LOCATE THE INFORMATION DESK.

KIDS LIBRARY - Copy

CHILDREN’S LIBRARY: THE CHILDREN’S LIBRARY HAS A QUIET AREA, AN INTERACTIVE AREA AND THE BOOKS SECTION. WITH A DIMENSION OF ABOUT 75’ X 30’ IT COVERS JUST NORTH OF 2,250 SQUARE FEET. THE KIDS SECTION HAS A GLAZED WALL ALONG ITS LONG AXIS THAT HAS A NORTH-EAST ORIENTATION. THE SPACE IS ABOUT 10’ HEIGHT(THE LOWEST) OF ALL THE SPACES BECAUSE EVEN AT 10’ HIGH, IT IS STILL A GENERALLY GRAND SPACE FOR THE KIDS. AND WITH ITS LOWERS HEIGHT, IT CREATES A CLERESTORY FROM WHICH I CAN BRING IN DAYLIGHT INTO THE ADJACENT ROOMS.
