Before Monday’s class, sign in to Perusall and read “What Makes a Good Life? Lessons From the Longest Study on Happiness,” a transcript from a TedTalk we are going to watch in class. Post at least three (3) response comments on Perusall, and reply to at least three (3) of your classmates’ comments. On Monday, we are going to compare this text with another excerpt from a New York Times article called “Happiness is Other People” and we will write about, and discuss, both. If you have any questions, let me know.
WHAT IS HAPPINESS?
Happiness is not a certain emotion. It is not a permanent emotion. It can last for minutes, a day, or sometimes weeks but it is not a permanent emotion. we can feel Happiness when our minds feel relaxed and satisfied. To me, the important thing to live a happy life is to think positively even if it is tough times. Happiness also depends on your surroundings, the people around you, your friends, and your family. You are sitting in your group of friends, and you feel happy just because you know those people give you a positive vibe and will support you even though you are not talking. This is happiness. Money is a basic need to live a healthy lifestyle but sometimes this can be toxic. For example, some rich people have money, but their minds are not satisfied, and they do not feel happy. So, money is not happiness, it can give you a better lifestyle, but you can buy happiness with money. Happiness is like an investment we need to invest in others to be happy.
