About Me

My name is Briana Cordero, I’m pursuing a career as a social worker. I enjoy volunteering with minority and LGBT youths and adolescents in my neighborhood. After reading an article on The rising epidemic of homelessness within our youth in this country it became a big part of my studies as a future social worker. The obstacles LGBT youth often face as a result of bullying can often lead to suicide, depression and most importantly homelessness. Teens often receive a negative reaction from parents and peers as a teen coming out as LGBT, which lead to the rising number of homeless and runaway youth. Homelessness is one of the main challenges LGBT youth face. My mission as a social worker is to identify the psychological issues that should be addressed through case management as a result of the bullying and ridicule faced by LGBT youth which too often leads to homelessness and even worse, suicide.
