The DOB Scholars are once again looking for interns! This is a great opportunity that can chow each student the ins-and-outs of the Department of Buildings. As someone who had gone through the 9 seminars, and is now officially working for the DOB, I would totally push anyone to take this on!
The DOB Scholars program consists of 10 Virtual seminars that outline the units of the department, and help you understand what it is that they exactly do. While you may think 10 seminars is a lot, take a look at it from this perspective; you dont actually have to physically go to the New Academic Building and sit there until 7 pm – now you get to sit in your bedroom.
Here are the two PDF’s You will need- the flier, that has all the info and the schedule, and the Application, that needs to be sent back to architecTech@citytech.cuny.edu.
This spring, The DOB Scholars Program will once again (virtually) open its doors to CUNY students interested in careers in architecture, engineering, construction, sustainability, public policy & government. For those interested in careers in the construction industry, in the public or private realm, this program will provide a significant amount of context for your future career.
Over the course of 10 virtual seminars, students will receive detailed curriculum from our professionals on a number of topics relevant to their future careers. Seminar topics include a Construction Regulation Overview; Modern Challenges Faced by Structural Engineers; Energy & Sustainability; Enforcement for Public Safety; Building Code Development & Revision; Emergency Operations; and a Roundtable w/ CUNY Graduates, among other focus points. We’ve attached the program schedule here, which includes all program dates & times, as well as the application form itself. All seminars will take place on Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30pm, starting on February 3rd, 2021, and concluding on April 28th.
At the conclusion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Agency to include on their resumes. Additionally, students will receive optional workshops on resume/cover letter drafting and interview skills from our HR professionals, as well as information on civil service exams.
Applications for The Spring 2021 DOB Scholars Program are due by December 11th at midnight. To apply for admission to the program, please send the completed application questionnaire (attached as a fillable pdf) as well as your attached resume to architecTech@citytech.cuny.edu. The application window will close promptly on December 11th, so don’t wait to apply! Students will hear back regarding potential admission by early January, and the program begins on February 3rd, 2021. Students should ensure the program works with their spring academic schedule before applying, as accepted candidates will need to attend all 10 seminars in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.
Please let us know if you have any questions, and we look forward to once again working with CUNY’s burgeoning construction industry professionals!
Best,
