Research projects

Ann – Gemination – In this PowerPoint presentation, I was able to learn more about Gemination. It is important to know about Gemination because there is a higher chance that the cleft on the tooth will retain plaque and cause caries in the same tooth. Therefore it is important to confirm the presence of Gemination through an X-ray and recommend strict oral hygiene practices.

oral anatomy final project –  I learned from this project that there are dental offices here that are money-minded and only focus on whether they reached the target or not. I worked at a dental office where they always held meetings to reach target goals every month. However, they have not compromised on the quality of the care they give to the patients. So we should always scrutinize the dental office we work at and make sure that the patient care is not compromised.

Research article DEN 1200 –

Of the research articles, I really loved working on this project. I have never heard about Parry-Romberg syndrome and it was specifically interesting because I had a pregnant patient having this syndrome. This patient presented a very normal facial appearance but it was mainly because she had numerous surgeries done on her at the right age. Hence it is very important that this syndrome be recognized right away because these patients will be affected socially and mentally due to the facial disfigurement if not treated in the right time period.

Ann Paul-Augustine, Oral pathology paper

This paper was another research project which helped me understand the significance of periapical cemental dysplasia that occurs in a vital tooth.
