CMCE 1155 Computer Applications in Engineering Technology (download Syllabus)

Course Description:

This course provides students with a working knowledge of computers and their application in the fields of Construction and Civil Engineering.  Topics include computer systems, terminology, internet use and searches, word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), and presentation software (PowerPoint).  The student will learn how to use these tools to manage construction projects, prepare estimates, proposals, and oral presentations through Project Based Learning. Students will work in groups to explore real world challenges and develop cross-curriculum skills.  The student will apply concepts to respond to a Request for Proposal (RFP).

 

Prerequisites: CUNY proficiency in reading and writing

0 Class hrs, 4 lab hrs, 2 credits

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, each student is expected to demonstrate the following:

1. an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and nontechnical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature (Criterion 3.f and Gen Ed)

2. an understanding of and a commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities, including a respect for diversity (Criterion 3.h)

4. utilizing graphic techniques to produce engineering documents (Criterion 9.a)
