Give Kids A Smile, New York City College of Technology, Brooklyn NY (February 2023 and February 2024)

The volunteer position for Give Kids a Smile was extremely rewarding. I had the privileged opportunity to provide underserved children of New York City much needed, top level dental care. During my time there, I helped the young patients understand the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene after providing them with a prophylaxis and fluoride treatment (under their parents’ consent).

Service Learning Project, Children’s Center at New York City College of Technology, Brooklyn NY (March 8th, 2024)

For our service learning project, we engaged children in learning about oral hygiene in a fun and interactive way. We used visual aids, such as a happy tooth to represent good foods for teeth and a sad tooth for bad foods. The children were encouraged to differentiate between these categories, helping them understand the impact of their food choices on their oral health.

At the end of the session, we provided each child with a goodie bag. These bags contained pediatric toothbrushes and stickers, which served as reminders of the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. By combining education with engaging activities and tactile rewards, we aimed to introduce lasting habits for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
